Spring Newsletter 2022
Hello,
As the days start to lengthen and the spring bulbs start to reach up to the sun, it seems like a good time to reflect on the past few months in the Seaglass Gallery. During this time, we have welcomed some new artists, each bringing their own style and creativity; we now have well over thirty artists working with us. We love exhibiting the work from a wide range of artists from the well- known to those who are up-and-coming.

Seaglass Workshops
Seaglass is a living creative space and to this end we have run many successful workshops. Recent ones have included: watercolour glazing and abstracts; line and wash; needle felting; pyrography; lino printing and silver jewellery making. Some are run in house by us and others are run by guest artists. What all of them have in common is that, with expert tuition to learn new skills, everyone on the workshops is able to immerse themselves in the creative space and focus on art. Our workshops are a wonderful way to give yourself some time and some head space. Here are some comments that have been made at the end of workshops:
'Incredibly good fun. Amazing results in a short time. Excellent tuition.'
'Absolutely loved the flow state achieved with this workshop, so wonderful to escape life for a bit!'
'An inspirational and totally absorbing workshop. I was astonished at what I produced.'
'Lovely morning - very relaxing and inspiring. Great instruction and well led.'
'Very thought provoking- lovely use of three colours. Very well taught and meticulously organised. Loved it!'
The list of lovely comments goes on in our little book.

Future Workshops
Nic George paints atmospheric seascapes which bring energy to our gallery walls. We are excited to announce that Nic will be running some workshops for us over the next few months starting with one called ‘Lympstone through the eye of an artist’. Focusing on the work of renowned local artist Martin Proctor, the half day workshop will be suitable for beginners and accomplished artists alike. Nic will demonstrate a range of techniques using watercolour and pen and then, using the harbour and foreshore alongside Martin Proctor’s harbour scenes as inspiration, he will guide painters to their finished piece.

Jayne Farleigh, another of our Seaglass artists, will be joining us in June to run a full day workshop. The focus of the day will be painting creatures underwater in their natural habitat. As a starting point ‘Sea Bear’ one of Jayne’s creations will be the focus. More details about these workshops will be emailed out soon, but in the meantime do get in touch to register your interest. There will be five places on each workshop. The small size of the workshops allow participants a chance to really get to know the artist running the workshop and have plenty of one-to-one tuition. Lympstone, with its beautiful estuary views, in the perfect location to come and do a workshop. Combined with a walk or lunch it makes for a great day out.

Supporting Charities
Since opening last June, we have raised a significant amount of money for various charities, including Mind, Shelter, the Alzheimers Society and the Sam Banks Memorial Fund. The money has come from the sale of cards, calendars, flowers and some commission-free sales. Thank you to all that have helped us to support others.
This month, on Tuesday 15th, we will be hosting our first Art and Craft Charity Fund-Raising Evening. This month's chosen charity will be the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.
The focus of these evenings will be to gather and create in the same space. Anyone coming will need to bring their own project to work on. Maybe it’s something that has been sitting unfinished for months and just needs to be picked up again. Maybe it’s a chance to just be with others whilst you paint, draw, print, sew etc. Please don't feel that you have to be an expert, as it's really just about enjoying the company of others and creating. Tuition will not be provided, but refreshments and a warm welcome will be. There will be five spaces and hopefully it will be a time of calm and creative fun where we can connect with others.
Time: 7-8.30 Tuesday 15th March
Cost: donation in pot for Red Cross Ukraine Appeal
Do email us at info@seaglassgallery.co.uk to reserve a place or register interest.
