Helen Stamp

Helen Stamp is a self-taught artist painting atmospheric and expressive landscapes, and colourful seascapes which lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. She started painting just over ten years ago, initially using acrylic paint, before changing to using oil paints on canvas and paper.

 

Helen spent her childhood in the countryside of Essex and Surrey and now lives in Devon. She has always had a love of the natural world and the places she has lived and travelled to throughout Britain have been the source of inspiration for her art. Most of her paintings are influenced by the moors and coast of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

 

 

Her seascapes contrast the cool blues and turquoise colours of the ocean with the with warm neutral tones of the shore, giving a sense of tranquility and calm, while also giving the painting a sense of energy and movement. Helen’s landscapes are inspired by many hours of walking on Dartmoor and the Devon lanes near her home. Layers are added, letting each layer dry in between, which give texture to the artwork.
